I walked out to the huge flowerbed in my front yard the other afternoon. I noticed the earth had pretended giveaway and crocus are making the showing of the season. Soon the crocus with all their colors of yellow, white and purple will be on center stage in the garden.
In this year so far, most of the snowfall has fallen in the mountians of the Wasatch Front.
So, we have been spoiled with a bit of a milder than usual snowy winter weather. It seems warm tempertures want to prevail this winter.
February seems to be a great month for preparing for early spring greenhouse to begin their germination process. If you don't have a greenhouse welcome your seeds under the grow lights you can purchase at garden centers. Then watch them grow before you know it spring will be here.
There are a couple of flowers you can plant outside in containers that will tolerate the colder night temperatures. The process below will help you get started for just the right rush of spring color. It reads as follows:
1. First purchase terra cotta pots. These pots work the best because they retain the water for the plants.
2. The size of the pot will determine on what plants you gather to plant in the soil.
3.Purchase good potting soil. Good soil is the key to success.
4. The flowers you will want to see growing in your pots are as follows:
1, Primrose
2. Geraniums (one's that withstand 32 degrees)
3. Ranuculus
4. Pansies
5. Violas
5. Now place your potting soil in desired pots. Dig about 2-3 inches holes for your plants.
Arrange them so they have the heighth in the back and shorter ones and trailing in the front.
Water the plants once a week. The best time to set out your plants is April !.
Finally, after all the cold and snow has melted from your garden, you will now have beautiful
flowers flowing from your front porch well into June.
Look for future topics next week.
