It's that time of year when the crocus, hyainths, daffodils and tulips are returning to center stage, like a grand production of flowers! Then they will have an encore all spring and summer long of blooming display for all to admire.
So, with the spring flower on their day to bloom that are a few things as far as chores in the garden that needs to be taken care of. Some of the items of interest need to be completed in order to have a well maintained yard. It reads as follows:
1. Clear out and clean throughout the flower bed. Keep it clean. Make sure you have plenty of space for your bulbs to bloom. Start cleaning away leanves, all of the dead rose cuttings and all other debris. Be careful when you rake not to tear up any of the newness of your spring bulbs.
Now the clean up is finished.
2. There is a garden that that one must need to be aware of. So, take notes. In gardening, especially in the early part of spring like the month of April a person must not amend the soil or disturb in any way too early. This is very important to the avid gardener. If you amend too early you may come across unwanted insects and bring interruption to the nutrients that are still in your soil. Be patient. You'll have a nice garden before you know it.
So, wait until the midddle of April to begin any serious digging in the earth. Of course, the famous vegetable garden of peas needs to be planted in March. That is an entire other subject.
3. The last and third item of interest is feeding your bulbs. What you want to do is apply bulb food. The kind of food you will want to purchase will have numbers on the container. For example, 3-12-2. This represents, Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium. Phosphorus is for lots of blooming. While Nitrogen is for green. Potassium for the roots to grow.
Keep this nutrient numbers in mind. They will be handy when you are caring for your lawn as well. A good bulb food is Dr. Earth. I like to use bone meal as well. It is another added source of nutrition for the beautiful flowers in your beloved garden all year long.
