Planting gladiolus bulbs

Now now spring has made its glorious introduction, its almost time to plant summer bulbs too. That famous funeral flower that stands tall in an arrangement floral spray. Unlike the tradtional spring bulb that needs the cold process to bloom. The gladiolus takes on a different process to bloom. The gladiolus never needs the cold temperatures to be successful. Some gardeners like to dig up the bulbs after their bloom time and store them for next year. But mine, I leave them in the ground and they come back year after year.

So, its time to purchase your gladiolus bulbs. You may want to research the internet for bulb companies for pricing and quality. Also, mail flower companies, like Brecks, White Flower Farm and etc. is still another place to purchase your beautiful award winning gladiolus.

Now that you have purchased your selection of bulbs, get ready to plant them. The following is the steps you will need to use for planting:

1. Dig a hole with your trowel about 3 inches in depth and 3 inches in diameter.

2. Place the bulb with the bottom side down. This looks like a small circular at the bottom of the
bulb. The stem looking part faces upward. Plant them in May, after the spring flowers are
finished.

3. Cover the bulb competely with dirt. The deeper planted the better for results in bloom and
strenghth of the flower. Press the dirt down with your hand.

4. Now in July you will have flowering color of gladiolus in your garden bed.

In years gone by I have entered flowers in the county fair. I always took first place!
