Children's garden

It's that time of year for planting and thinking about our gardens again. Listed below is a fun list of things that is great for a childs garden adventure. Enjoy...



A - is for Arbor Day. This means plant a tree.



B - is for Bean, There are many varieties of beans. Such as, stringed beans, waxed beans, french style beans, lima beans,etc.



C- is for Carrot. Carrots grow in the ground. They are bascially a root. Carrots are a bright, and have an orange color.



D - is for Dirt. Dirt is the black loamy soil that is the main agent for growing plant life.



E - is for Earth. Earth is where we all live and need to take care of it. We take care of the earth by planting trees, flowers and shrubs. If we take care of the earth it will remain a beautiful place to live and grow.



F - is for Furrow. A furrow is an irrigation water flow in a vegetable garden. The furrow is very important when watering the soil from the ground up. Furrows are made by the track of a plow.



G - is for Gardening. Gardening is someone who has a plot of land for herbs, flowers, vegetable, fruits, trees and shrubs. This is then the process of growth and cultivated earth.



H- is for Hoe. Hoe is a tool that is a thin blade used for mixing, weeding, tilling and finally digging around the plants. The how is my most favorite tool.



I - is for Idaho potatoes. Your neighboring state has the best potatoes in the country. Plus it is the only word that I could think of for the I's.



J - is for Johnny-jump-up. This flower is a wild pansy. These plants can tolerate cold. They are very hardy. They return every year for our pleasure.

K - is for Kale. Kale is the leafy plant related to the cabbage family. These plants could even be cousins. The plant makes an attractive plant in a potted container. You also find your kale on your plant in the restaurant.

L - is for Ladder. You will need a ladder to help your Dad pick apples from the apple tree. The trees are the answer.

M - is for Mulch. Mulch is the mixture of bark, wood chips, that protects your trees, flowers, shrubs, and roses. It acts as a weed barrier and keeps the soil somewhat moist.

N - is for Nursery. A nursery is where seeds, plants, and vegetable plants are grown from the beginning stages until you purchase them.

O - is for the oak tree. Watch the oak tree grow in your garden. Climbing the tree is a fun adventure and for the play time.

P - is for Plow. Plow the vegetable garden with an old hand plow. Farmers still use hand plows to farm their land. Cultivate the land.

Q - is for the Quail I see drinking water from the puddles of water left behind by the rain. The baby quail follow their mother all in a row.

R - is for the Rain. We need rain to clear the air and water all of our plants. Rain is very important for nature and for all of us.

S - is for Soil. Soil is what holds all of the plants, trees, shrubs, to the ground. There are many types of soils in our Salt Lake area. Some of the soil we have is clay, sandy, and rocky soil. Soil is a must when growing your favorite plants.

T - is for Trellis. A trellis used for your climbing roses. They are usally made of a lattice wood.

U - is for Umbrella Umbrella is your protection from the rain. Umbrellas are very popular in London, England. It's because it rains alot there. If it rains we can not work out in the garden.

V - is for Venus fly trap. This plant is from the sundew family of the Carolina coast, of the United States. The leaf of the plant captures insects, like flies.

W - is for Wheelbarrow. Wheel barrow is a handy tool to use in the garden. it is handy for carrying soil and cement.

X - is for Xeriscape. Xeriscape is the art of growing, plants, trees, shrubs, in a less moisture ground. Drought tolerate.

Y - is for Yarrow. Yarrow is a perennial plant that is green and comes back every year for your enjoyment. it has white and pink flowers. Also, red in a different variety.

Z - is for Zinnia. Thid showy flower came from the botanist by the name of Johann G. Zinn. This in the year 1759. These flwoers have an array of colors for all summer long.
