Glossary

Your Own Glossary
for the Garden

Annual - a plant that sprouts, flowers, makes seeds and dies within one year of germination.


Bulb - is a bundle of leaves of short swollen leaves packed tightly around a fat stem.


Biennial - a plant whose life extends over two years.

Chlorophyll - a green pigment found in plants. Which then makes food.

Germination - The process of seed to plant.

Greenhouse effect - Describing how gases as such, carbon dioxide keep heat trapped with it's earth atmosphere.

Photosynsis - A process by which plants use the sun's energy to turn water and carbon dioxide into glucose and release oxygen as a byproduct.

Perennials - is a plant that blooms, grows and the cycle goes on for years.

Pistel - The female organ of a flower consisting of a stigma, style and ovary.

Pollen - A powdery mass of tiny spores containing the male sex cells of a sseed plant which is produced in the anthers.

Rhizones - an underground stem.

Seeds - A capsule made by most plants. From which a plant grows.

Sowing - The action to which putting seeds in the ground.

Stem - The part fo the plant that holds it upright connecting the roots to leaves and flowers.

Stratification - Th process of the laying of the seeds in order for germination to occur.

Tuber - A thick underground stem from which plants grow.

Vascular system - a netowrk of tubes connect parts of the plant.
